Heat Treatments
ARKCNC can offer nitriding and nitrocarburizing which are low temperature, low distortion heat treatments. These treatments are carried out to enhance the surface properties of finished or near-finished
ferrous components. This process may increase the parts resistance to tempering and improve their resistance to corrosion.
Definitions:
Nitriding
A heat-treating process that diffuses nitrogen into the surface of a metal to create a case-hardened surface. These processes are most commonly used on high-carbon, low-alloy steels. They are also used on medium and high-carbon steels, titanium, aluminium and molybdenum.
Nitrocarburizing
A thermally induced chemical process involving the diffusion of carbon, oxygen and nitrogen into a metal's surface to improve surface hardness and wear resistance. Nitrocarburizing is industrially performed in a gas nitriding furnace at temperatures up to 1202°F (650°C).
